Abu Dhabi is launching an innovative recycling rewards initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and providing residents with a practical incentive for recycling. This new program, announced by Abu Dhabi Mobility, allows residents to convert recycled plastic bottles into credit for public transportation fares.
How New Recycling Rewards Works
Earn Points by Recycling
Residents can now earn rewards for recycling their plastic bottles. By depositing empty bottles into specially designed recycling units, located at major bus stations in Al Ain and Al Dhafra, residents can accumulate points. Each 600ml bottle earns one point, while larger bottles earn two points.
Convert Points into Bus Fare Credit
Accumulated points can be converted into credit for the Hafilat smart card, which is used to pay for public transport fares across Abu Dhabi. Specifically, every 10 points earned equate to one dirham, which will be added to the Hafilat card balance.
Convenient Recycling Stations
To facilitate this initiative, two new recycling units will be installed in key locations: Al Ain and Al Dhafra. These units are designed to be user-friendly and efficient, making it easy for residents to participate in the recycling program.
Collaborative Effort
This program is a collaborative effort between the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and Cycled Technologies. Cycled Technologies is known for its expertise in smart recycling stations and reverse vending machines (RVM), which are integral to this initiative.
